PEPPOL Infrastructure Open for Early Adopters

by , created on 01/05/2009 01:03

Version 0.8 of the PEPPOL infrastructure has been released as of May 1st 2009. The release includes a simple demonstrator business application in addition to open source software libraries and other components.

The PEPPOL Infrastructure allows Service Providers, governments and large corporations to exchange business documents betweeen their respective users. Small and medium sized companies and public sector organizations, that do not have the capabilites to connect directly to the PEPPOL Infrastructure, must sign up with a Service Provider connected to the PEPPOL Infrastructure. It i strongly reccomended that a standardized interface is used for connecting to a Service Provider. The PEPPOL project offers the PEPPOL lightweight profile as such a stadardized interface.

The release contains the following components:

  • A software toolkit implementing the "PEPPOL Full profile" needed in order to establish an access point (connection) to the PEPPOL infrastructure.

  • A reference implementation of a very simple business application capable of creating and receiving orders or invoices. This reference implementation is called the "PEPPOL Demonstrator". The PEPPOL Demonstrator implements the "PEPPOL Lightweight Profile" using the supplied toolkit.
  • A REST-proxy which can be set up in front of a UDDI registry. The open source UDDI registry, OpenUDDI, can be used as service registry. The REST-proxy implements the PEPPOL registry specification.
