The event has an established and growing trajectory in terms of participation and results. Its first edition took place in Madrid in 1989, while the last TECHNIMAP was held in Gijón in 2007. TECNIMAP 2010, Zaragoza, is organised jointly by the Ministry of the Presidency, Aragón Regional Government and Zaragoza City Hall, and will take place in the city's trade fair centre.

The event expects to attract eight thousand attendees from Spain and some of the EU Member States, around three hundred participating businesses and more than a hundred members of the media to give life to the Round tables, Workshops and a large exhibition area which will serve as a platform for discussing topics of common interest regarding information technologies and electronic administration, as well as the presentation and practical demonstration of related services, equipment and cutting-edge systems in this area.

TECNIMAP will be opening its doors to citizen participation, with a marquee erected in the middle of the Plaza del Pilar square in Zaragoza, from where the public can follow the different sessions and discussions, and contribute with their ideas and opinions. Another new feature at this year's conference is the acceptance of communication relating to experiences or projects from the EU or its Member States. Moreover, a new category has been created specifically to give an award to an outstanding European initiative within the already established TECNIMAP Awards, officially recognising good practices in eAdministration.
